... if any of you follow the convention shows around Las Vegas, WSA ( Shoe Shoe)
is in town...
It has taken over the Mandalay Bay Convention Center (MBCC), and the Sands Expo Center, including six floors of suites, in the Venitian Hotel,... it's HUGE!
Our fun, both DJ (BTW, she likes being called that, I am the only one she likes to hear her formal name from) and I, started on 7/25, Tuesday, with an 8 hour day, building lighting trusses for GES, through IATSE 720 ( see previous postings), for two days, ... we had Thursday off. But, on Wednesday night, we got a call to work for an Istallation and Dismantle company ( *I&D) Coastal International, to build a booth at MBCC, which has lasted until today, working 8 hours straight each day. OH!, ... BTW!, we get paid to work for Coastal at $20/hr, and on Sat and Sun, ... automatic Time and a Half (O.T.). As I was on a 20 foot ladder leaning over a tower of the booth, this gal walks down the aisle, staring up at me and smiles, I smile back, of course! Later, she and another Lady, come and see me, now I am on the ground working, and they inquire, as to how they can hire somebody to help them with some tasks in their booth. OK, the booth DJ and I are already working for, is big, 40 feet x 80 feet, and at 20 feet tall at it's highest, ... these two ladies ( happens to be a Mom and Daughter), only have a 10x10... but this is the daughter's first time with a booth in a convention, only been an Attendee, last year, same show, came by, and I said that I will be off the clock in an hour-ish, and I'll stop by...
in short, ... to help these two ladies out, in two days time, of about 3 hours time total, they have tipped DJ and I $190! ... in cash, = SWEET!
We did a gig last night for DKNY at the Venitian Hotel in four of the suites. We got split up on two different crews, but the scenario was similar, we got there at 6pm, and waited until 9:30pm, for the druids to bring our freight in, ... so we all just hung out in the suites, watching TV, wishing the wet bar was stocked, or that we had room service on the client's exspense... and we were there until 1 am ... with a call back to the MBCC, at 9 am ...BTW, we had already worked that day, on the Coastal booth, and in between gigs, did the 10x10, ...
....let's not forget, about my Trooper! ... DJ has been also still been working her Tropicana gig, with the "Folies Bergere"
... let's crunch the numbers, OK?! .... gets out a calculator
we'll skip the math, but all in all, we have made like $2500, since last Tuesday!
... and this only the "load-in" of the show, ... we still have yet to reverse what we just did, starting on Friday night!
... this is why we moved to Las Vegas, .. we are here to "take the money, ... not to give it away"
So, .. how far away is Magic Mountain?!, ... Oh Yeah, ... we have to wait for some time off! LOL!
