this last week has been crazy. Let's run down the checklist of insanity. This past Friday and Saturday, I was in a council and committees meeting at the Sheraton Gateway O'Hare, where I sat in as a liaison. I learned a lot about the decision making process of my organization, met some cool people, talked to my Executive Director and his very nice wife, and ate tons of free food. I also stayed in one of the nicest hotel rooms I've ever been in, which says a lot about how sad MY life is. No really, I had an entire office area and a HUGE bedroom area. Were I some perverted businessman, I could've had a decent-sized drunken orgy.

Um, anyway.

I also developed a crush on the woman running the meetings. Our chairperson was CUTE, and NICE, and my age. Too bad she was married, with a big honkin' wedding ring. Damn! But really, she was nice, and super-intelligent, which is a nice change of pace. I keep meaning to e-mail her and thank her for making my first membership council meeting painless.

I've also been trying to juggle keeping an eye on 4 temps and 1 new hire this week. It hasn't been easy. You-know-who isn't fired, and is actually trying to improve. Maybe the other co-worker being fired showed him the writing on the wall. But I'm not holding my breath. I've become very world weary in just 4 months, and I'm planning for every contingency.

I like the new hire, but she already seems daunted by how much work we have, which is not a good sign. However, she has lots of good ideas about how to streamline our database. I took her out to lunch today. My first time taking a direct report out to lunch on the company dime. Pretty sweet.

I had a conversation with my co-worker Maria about wedding rings. She's an expert on jewelry and offered to help me look for one when I'm ready to pop the question to Kristin. She's a really sweet person. I sometimes forget she's only 23. She's a lot more mature than I was at that age, and I got married at what? 24? 25?

Yeah, I was married before. I was young and DUMB.

More ideas for my novel. Even if I fail at nanowrimo, I know what I want to do.

Tired. 'Night! smile
