ERG! Watching the movie 'Hot Coffee'... I know the stories are cherry-picked but damn, some of these are really sick...

Jamie Leigh Jones case - a woman hired by KBH and sent over-seas, they housed her in an almost completely male dorm unlike what she was promised. She was drugged, beaten, and gang-raped. When she went to the med unit the clinic did the rape kit and turned it over to KBH (which promptly got rid of the some of the evidence). Then KBH sent two guards to grab her and they put her under effectively armed arrest in a shipping container. One of the guards broke and let her use his phone so she could call her dad, who called a senator and got her out. And she is not allowed to sue the company because her contract her an arbitration contract in there saying you can't take the company to court - which is what we all have in most of our credit-card, phone, and work contracts (the contracts usually start without them, and then they are added as part of one of the regular mails you get saying 'if you keep using this product it means you agree to this')
Here is her foundation

There is also a story in there about how the Chamber of Congress acts to replace supreme court justices who aren't "business friendly" - the point where one guy (Oliver DIaz) had attack ads against him erunning every few minutes that were not bound by campaign spending. After he won anyway he was immediately indited for taking a loan from a guy, even though he had excused himself from every case involving anything even remotely near the guy's lawfirm because of his friendship. When he was cleared of that, within a week he was taken to court again for think tax evasion. Again he was cleared of everything. By the en of all this he had not been allowed to sit on the bench and make a difference in cases for over three years (during which all the business stuff was being over-turned against consumers as had been the initial intention), and his image was so destroyed he could not raise the money to win another election. And the stupid this is that this was apparently happening all over the country at the same time...

Holy crap, 'the more you know' my foot, I think I'd rather un-watch all this if I can't make a difference anyway. As it is I think I'll have to actually get involved in a few years once my life gets stable.. I have a few ideas that might make a difference and make sure people have a real way of being informed.. *sigh*

(Oh, and this movie is available on HBOGo... just watch it on a day when you're pissed off already)

*nodnod* Not only that, but after all that happen putting her in a cargo trailer under armed guard and not letting he contact anyone, as if she were the criminal? And yea, just the fact that even though we have a constitutional right to trials and courts, the fact that for eight years so many laws got passed to make it impossible to go to court and people were (and are) convinced this was for the best.. Arg.

And yea, the whole plant thing too, had friends in jail over that too, which is equally stupid. I heard in a documentary that the idea behind that one was actually that after an economic boon where a lot of Mexican immigrants were brought in to work, the government wanted to find some way of sending them back. There was a lot of pot use among the immigrants so the made it illegal and then were able to ship them off for 'committing a crime while or probationary visas' or something like that. What's worse is that they went over after that and forced other countries to make it illegal to, threatening with sanctions and other crap.

*sigh* This is why people don't watch documentaries or try to find out what's going on around them, because it just pisses them off and makes them feel helpless.
