as you all know, i hate updating without responding first to the comments left in my previous journal. but i don't have much time, so i'll have to live with the guilt, i suppose.

anyway. as you can imagine, i've been busy with end-of-the-semester stuff. i'm taking an incomplete in my one printmaking class because i don't think i have enough work to be graded on. i've got a lot of really exciting stuff in progress, but nothing was even at the point where i could have gotten it done had i busted my ass and pulled a couple of all-nighters. well, i might have been able to get one of them done, but i had a very inconvenient gastro-intestinal flu, and that pretty much shot to hell all chances of finishing anything on time.

i wish i was returning next semester, but my financial situation won't allow it. i've got to try to establish residency here and save up some money. i can't afford to pay out-of-state tuition here; it's a difference of over $5000. so yeah. i'll be returning next fall semester when i can qualify for the in-state tuition, or at least get a waver. my professors have agreed to let me come in every couple of weeks or so next year to use the press and talk with them about my work. and i'll still be running the printmaking guild and helping to coordinate our trip to the conference in April (yeah, don't ask how i got talked into that one). so in effect, it will be largely the same as it was this semester, just without me paying them money, and without them giving me a grade. works for me.

now i've just got to worry aout finding a job. i'm not sure what my prospects are here in Greenville. i suspect if i was having trouble finding work for someone with my education, experience level and qualifications in New Orleans, it will by a kajillion times harder here. or not. i don't know what the market's like. but all the other art students i know have menial jobs, so i assume that's all there is. i'm not discouraged- i haven't really even started looking yet. i just get a bit prematurely intimidated/bewildered/grumpy because it seems everything is either service industry, manual labor, or highly specialized stuff that requires knowledge and skills far beyond my realm of expertise. i suppose it's that way everywhere. it's not like they're going to come to my door and be all like, "Hey, Hyena! We heard you could draw real good. Draw us some dogs! We'll paaaaaay yoooooou..."

anyway. hopefully i will be getting a car soon, which will aid greatly in the finding of a job, being that i'll be able to a)get to the job, and b) um, get to the job. so fingers crossed on this one. this town is not easy to live in without a motor vehicle. i despise it.

so. today i'm flying home to Kentucky for a couple weeks. hence the hurry. i've still got some last minute stuff to do before we head to Raleigh what for me to catch an aeroplane. the Ponch-monster is coming with, so i need a little extra time (on top of the extra time i usually need) to get through security.

um... that's about it for now. i'll try to update as much as i can in Kentucky, but since i'm not bringing my laptop i don't know how often that will happen. if i don't talk to y'all soon, have a safe and happy holiday season.

much love, and thanks for seeing me through this year. it's been a rough one for me, in many ways both big and small. and as usual, being able to vent/explain/whine/generally just mouth off here, and having y'all to sort through the crap and still talk to me afterwards- well, it helps more than you'll ever know.

so.

tell your friends and family and pets that you love them, don't drink and drive, wear your seat belt, be careful, and pray hard. gods willing, i'll see you on the other side of the year.

-Hyena.

I think the Saints would do better if they got rid of Haslett. I tell people that I sometimes judge players but rarely try to judge coaches, since there's so much going on there (behind the scenes and otherwise) that I feel I don't have the expertise to judge coaches. The only two I actively denigrate in the NFL are to some extent Haslett (I just feel like they have more talent than their records under him have shown... but that's guesswork) and especially Mike Martz (he inherited a Super-Bowl-champ with a crushing offense and improving defense and has merely lost one Super Bowl since, plus I've seen him make actual bad choices in games [punting vs. field goals, stuff like that]).

Sorry to blab... but that ^ is really the full extent to which I will badmouth any coach.

It is easy to want to spend a lotta cash now smile but I see my Visa bill is about equal to my Xmas money, plus my car insurance bill just arrived.
