Life is beautiful, yet it is also tragically ugly. This is the way it is with everything: the most beautiful pastry or confection will make you fat, and the ugliest fruit or vegetable is likely to keep you in the best health. Everything is at once beautiful and ugly. Not in a silly 'yin-yang, can't have one without the other' kind of way, but just a 'that's the way it is' kind of way. It's also not a matter of perspective; whether we see the beautiful or see the ugly is a matter of perspective, but whether we see them or not, the ugly and the beautiful, they are both always there, standing stoically, indifferent to which perspective you choose to take or allow yourself to take.
