Every once in a while, I get to do something wholly different with comedy. Usually, a host says some stuff about me, and I get on stage, and I do my spiel about my dick or 90's Nickelodeon shows, and I get off stage. Laughs are had. Bonds are made. It is a good time for us all....but...we've all seen that before.
That was not the cast last night at The Pilot Light in Knoxville, TN. I took part in QED's "The Slide Show." QED is an experimental comedy showcase where the show each week has a different theme. Stuff like "Terrible Characters" and "Letters to Penthouse" and last night's show, "The Slide Show." The idea behind "The Slide Show" is that each comic took the stage and had 8 random images pop up on the screen behind them and were tasked with telling a comedic story incorporating the images that they saw.
I got the chance to tell two different stories while I was there. The first started as a wild night of drinking that wound up with me blacking out and getting transported to Ireland and being fired back to America on a giant bullet. The second (which the picture you're seeing is from) was me recounting a recent movie I had seen about a "bestraggled" (yes...I'm aware it isn't a word) woman that was the subject of a botched lung beautification surgery before Elliot Ness and the rest of The Untouchables saved her. The movie was called "The Bestraggler"....by Michael Bay. So...yeah. Things got weird.
I love comedy. It's constantly fun. Every crowd is different and has a different energy, but sometimes SOMETIMES....you get to do a show that will never ever be duplicated. That was last night. If you ever find yourself anywhere near Knoxville on a Monday night, hop on down to The Pilot Light for a thoroughly original comedy show.
I don't know why this blog is like...a shitty local scene newspaper doing a review of a show and telling all the hipsters in town to go see it. I was really just trying to say that I had a great time doing a different type of comedy show. OH WELL! MY BLOG MY RULES!
