I seem to have fixed my computer. I'm not quite sure how I did it - I tweaked a couple of different things, and even swapped the hard drive cable, so I don't know exactly what did the trick - but it's probably good that I did, or there probably would have been a computer pizza on the pavement outside the window by the end of the week. Of course, now I've opened my mouth, the same errors will probably mysteriously reappear overnight. Bah. I think I want to get a Mac, anyway.
