French fries again today.
I know it's irresponsible but she asks in perfect syllables and breaks the fries up into perfect pieces before munching them down without any help.
I keep thinking that it's odd, our even number, and I wonder if she thinks it too.
(This afternoon I stopped at lights and winced for twenty seconds while my young one watched a mother push a pram across the road.)
I've bought books and tapes and even gone to groups, but words don't help - I'm not taking a damn course, I'm preparing to break my baby's heart and she doesn't even know it.
How'll I tell when the time's right?
That's what keeps me up most nights.
Strange what gets me back to sleep: the thought that too soon or too late won't matter once the truth is twice as real.
