Well, I'm getting too many comments lately (thanks Luxt) so I'd better start a new entry. Unfortunately I'm also feeling highly unmotivated. So, here's my list of the best movies I saw in 2005. Some are older than that, but who has the time to look up the release dates on IMDB anyway?

1. March of the Penguins (even if the right-wing thinks it is about "family values", it's really just letting penguins be penguins)
2. Broken Flowers (Bill Murray should be in every film)
3. MirrorMask (fantasy coming-of-age film with a very unique "look")
4. Cronicas (disturbing story about the intersection of prime-time "journalism" and a latin american pedophile/murderer)
5. Up and Down (comedy/drama about contemporary Czech life and the tensions of immigration and capitalism)
6. Music from the Inside Out (documentary featuring members of the Philadelphia Orchestra and all the various types of music they make in their spare time)
7. La Promesa (Spanish suspense film charting the journey of a deeply-religious woman's search for meaning by abandoning her normal routine)
8. Grizzly Man (Werner Herzog's documentary on a man who literally lived amongst the grizzly bears in Alaska, and lost all sense of perspective - fascinating, weird, tragic)
9. Bad Education (Pedro Almodovar's take on religious schooling and sexual abuse)
10. A Love Song for Bobby Long (starring John Travolta and Scarlett Johansson - i didn't expect to like it as much as i did)
