While I was not present for the shooting that took place in the early hours of this morning, I am certainly not fully un-affected by its occurrence. It took place in a library that I visit daily. A library that I'm in so much that when people can't find me they know to look for me there. Florida State University is my safe haven, and is absolutely a home to me. It terrifies me that anyone could be so violent in my favorite spot on my favorite campus.
Today proves we are more than just a football team. We are an academic facility. We are a family. We are a unit and we have all been violated. Today a man is dead as the result of his negative actions in my wonderful and dear Strozier Library.
This morning I woke up to 5 missed called, 1 missed FaceTime, and 15 text messages: all people wanting to know if I was safe. This tragedy has reaffirmed for me that I am loved and valued; as it likely has for every student at The Florida State University.
I wish I had more to say, but at this point I have no more words. I just wanted everyone in my SG community to know I was safe.
