I went to Mackinac Island in High School. it was freaking awesome. gorgeous views and excellent weather. i went for a band field trip (yeah, super nerdy) and we stayed at the Grand Hotel--that kicked serious ass! you'll have to check that place out and imagine a bunch of teenagers hanging out there with the elitist bitches. lots of horses, b/c they don't allow vehicles other than those for emergency (ambulance, police, fire)

it was called "breezy point" which made sense because we went to the furthest point on that island in fact called breezy point and there is no campground there. just a surf club and a ton of rich people.
after that, jim called the campground again, talked to some guy that seemed sane who told us that the campground was a hour(or so) from jamestown, which would have made it about 300 miles from where we were. not about to make that crazy detour from going back home we called AAA and had them find us the cheapest room possible in the area, for $60 we got a never used before airport ramada hotel room. it looked really nice, had wonderful carpet, but the airconditioning did not work. there were no more finished rooms that we could change into and stay at $60 so we stayed there.
the only camping we actually did that trip was setting up our tent at a rest stop in PA, they have the nicest rest stops, absolutely beautiful, in the middle of the mountains.
