how Speed Racer saved my life. . .
when i was a little hornitos, i used to pretend i was Speed Racer. my mom had a volkswagen bug (it was really cool, yellow with black racing stripes and running boards) and it had a little 'handle bar' above the glove box that i used to hang on to all the time while we were driving, all the while singing "go! Speed Racer! go!" . .
and for some reason (probably the shape of the car) if you had the windows rolled up, it was completely hard to shut the last door of the car. .(especially if you were a scrawny little kid) (this was way before car's actually informed you a door was open) and one day while hanging on and singing away, my mom took a sharp left turn and the door flew wide open ! but i was hangin' on for dear life. . because of Speed Racer!
and today during my biology mid-term, Dr. Carroll (the instructor) gave us a 10 point extra credit question. .
"what was Speed Racer's monkey's name?"
and of course i knew it was Chim Chim!
. . but later informed him, it was actually Speed Racer's little brother, Spridle's pet monkey. .
I was very fortunate growing up that i had roll models to look up to. .
bugs bunny, speed racer and the three stooges. .
they made me the man i am today. .
