Grace Sanford was an amazing woman. She was my mom's mom. When i was little, she was just an old person with really rough hands and a stronge grip. Then as i got older she was my embarrassing loud talking, loud dressing grandma. Then, when i was 15 she came to my moms second wedding............and she swung her hair around and danced with us to some sort of shitty music. That's the day i knew she was awesome......there was always something mysterious and respect worthy about her, but it's hard to impress teenagers. As i grew older i knew that she was an amazing woman, the kind that you strive to be like. Her hands got softer as i grew older, probably because she wasn't milking 30 plus cows everyday. She used to do all her own artificial inseminating for her cows. She was always excited about learning and teaching. My grandma could play fourteen instruments. She Put herself through college.............going to school everyday AFTER milking 30 cows. My grandma taught in a one room school house in the middle of no where MT. She was facinated by everything, she was always ready to explore, dance, sing, or smile. My grandma was bipolar, once after a 6 year affair, my alcoholic of a grandpa got my middle school aged mother to persuede my grandma to sign herself into an institution for treatment...........my mom did. My grandma had a sad look as she agreed to treatment. I am sure she needed a break from 4 children in 5 years, working as a teacher and being the only adult in the relationship. Once she was gone, my SOB grandpa moved his mistress in, burned alot of my grandmas things, and banned her from seeing her children for 2 years. As a mother i cannot imagine not seeing my children for that long!! But, she never blamed my mom for talking her into it, she was never bitter about how hard her life was. She remarried in 1975 and had two more children, one in the car on the way to the hospital and one on the couch at home by herself. She was the flying farmers queen in 1981. She ran a ferry across the misourri river for the last 8 years. She was the type of lady that had matching shoes and purses, who knew which fork was for which course. I saw her on thanksgiving, even then she still had her nasty sense of humor, her shocking way of speaking, and her love of life. She was amazing, and i don't get to learn anything from her anymore. She died on January 10th.
I drove over to Montana to attend her funeral. Hearing all of her friends and ex students talk about her was amazing. There was one man who told a story of when she was teaching middle school......there was a spring field day one year. When it was almost over, my grandma stepped down to the track and asked the students "Who is the fastest boy here?" They pointed him out, and she challenged him to the hundred yard dash. My grandma, with her hair perfect, in a dress and heels.............she took off the heels and raced this boy barefoot down the track. She won. On man just said, "Grace could change her own oil." It was great. After that trip, my new goal is to be a more positive person, to have that passion without the negativity. It will be hard to do i think.

I found a picture of her on google!

I went pretty well, but then my period started while I was on break! Thankfully, no one noticed, and I had time to take care of it before resuming my pose. How awkward.
