Due to the exceptional record keeping practices of two of our
government's most trusted agencies of which of course, I have the
highest respect; Social Security and the IRS, I now have the distinct
privilege of re-applying for a new social security card. Apparently,
some esteemed clerk in the charge of the Social Security office used
'creative license' when keying in my birth date. Because of this
superior example of competence the IRS has decided not to process my
federal tax return because I, not being aware of this as I of course
should have been at age 26, opted to fill in my actual birth date on my
electronically submitted 2003 1040. So to remedy the situation, I was
informed in less than a polite fashion that I am to re-apply for a new
social security card. And when the omniscient IRS finally does decide
to update their records I get the added pleasure of paying additional
taxes this year on a retirement fund for which I was not given the
option to rollover.
