-Okay, I've come to the realization that my father may be the toughest, or at least the most stubborn, man in the world. Those of you who have been reading my journals as of late know that my father has been very ill. Well, Saturday morning at about 5am I got a call from the hospital saying that my dad had just passed away. I frantically threw some clothes on and got down to the hospital. When I got up to ICU, they told me that they just got him back. After being dead for 35 minutes, they brought him back with CPR and lots of shocking. Well, the doctor took me, my mom, and my brothers out of the room to explain to us that he was very sorry, but after being down for 35 minutes without oxygen to the brain, the chances of him being brain-dead or close to it were incredibly high. He told us that we would most likely have to make the decision whether or not to take him off of life support and let him die peacefully. Fast foward to today. I get another 5am call from the hospital telling me I'd better get there. When I get there, the first thing I notice is that my father is awake. The doctor tells me that, although he can't talk because the respirator tube is down his throat, he's answering all questions with a yes or no shake of the head and he seems to recognize everyone. He whispered to my mother, myself, and my brothers that he loves us and he squeezes our hands. They're taking him down to catscan as i type this to see what kind of brain activity there is.

-Cross your fingers, please.

P.S. - The doctor also told me that when they asked him how he was feeling, he gave them the finger. That's my dad....us bitter irish men. wink
