Took the night off work to stand in for Josh at his former roommate's 21st birthday party...

It was nice to be able to get out and be social with some folks. It's something I've done hardly any of since being here in Houston...for a number of reasons...one of them is that being an older chick, these guys don't think to invite me out to party.

Actually, it's probably not got much to do with age because frankly, i don't look 30 and they never believe me when I tell them.

Either way, it was a lot of fun to hang with the boys. They're really quite nice. I only wish I'd started hanging out with them earlier.

One of them, from Mississippi, told us that his dogs drownd in the hurricane. His family got out but everything is destroyed. Including this sweet old Corvette he's decided to try and salvage.

Many of the kids I go to school with are from the effected areas. I've been trapped behind my television all week...those highways that all got washed out to sea? Those were the ones I used to get here. Those road signs all bent and broken, lying on the streets...those are the ones that guided me here. This thing is so horrible I don't even have any words for it.

If that storm had taken just the slightest turn west...it would have been me sitting on my roof...
