BAD NEWS: Ok, I know it's not Monday...but here it is...
My friend Josh, a.k.a Army Guy got a call on Thursday...he's being called back to active duty. They're sending him back to Iraq.
Apparently they called his mom, then his roommate, then the school, then his job. Yeah, they tracked him down.
He showed up to my house Thursday an hour early and told me the news.
***
I could hear his mother crying on the phone...
When I tell you that the woman in charge of the Toyota program broke down in tears in the office at school when they called...maybe you'll believe me when I tell you that Josh is a good man. A man that none of us want to lose.
Not after all he's been through this past year. Suffering in all the ways I have. Starving...homesick...he even slept in his car for three weeks in the school parking lot when he was evicted...and never said a word.
Four days into this new job he has that is going to pay him an enormous amount...
One hot mother fucking second from graduating...
It's so ridiculously unfair, it's laughable...
***
Now, Josh is no coward. He's been to Iraq already and seen all his men die.
This is a war he does not support...neither do I.
And when he said to me, "Margo, if it comes down to it, I'll have you stab me, right here under my ribs..." I told him, "Josh, I would do that for you."
***
So now...we're holed up in my apartment...reaching out to anyone we know who might have some ideas...putting our heads together...researching military law...trying to find SOME way...ANY way...to keep him home.
If any of you might know something...please get in touch.
I'll be here...
