My thanks to Badcop for not allowing me to get away with NOT coming up to Austin for the LONESTAR ROUNDUP.
Not that I wouldn't have done it without your help...in my situation...I COULDN'T have done it on my own.
Not only did I desperately need a weekend away from home...but I had a great time saucing it up at the bar, disturbing the neighbors with fireworks, and relaxing on your porch in the beautiful country. And yes, you really DO live in the middle of fucking nowhere!!!
***
The hot rod show was fantastic! So many beautiful cars...so many beautiful people...such great music! And absolutely perfect weather for it all.
***
The real party started AFTER the car show when all of us congregated in town. Picture it...hundreds of 'my people' (hot rodders) lined up on the streets...drinking beer...sporting flasks...and watching the cars cruise...occassionally making a pit stop to do burn outs for the crowds enjoyment.
The highlight of the night...possibly of the weekend...was this one particular truck...stops...does a burn out...first the smoke simply covers the tires...then the body of the truck...the entire truck itself...then the street as a whole...
(please pardon the terrible photo quality...again, could somebody PLEASE donate a REAL camera for me to take REAL pics with?!)
The truck stops spinning it's wheels and cruises off...
As the smoke clears...you can begin to make out the shape of a small car that had been stopped behind it...
Not only did this car get covered in smoke...they'd had their windows open...and the interior had become filled with the smoke and smell of burning rubber...
Poor civilians...didn't know what was going on...
The driver stayed put...but the passenger evacuated the vehicle...jumping out so quickly she dropped her purse and the contents spilled onto the street...
Not that I could blame this poor woman...if my car filled up with that smoke I'd probably bail too...but it was REALLY funny to see...
Us spectators laughed and laughed...
Really we were laughing WITH her...but I guess she thought we were laughing AT her...she gathered her things from the street and got back into the car...but not before spouting something off about how we were all horrible people...
***
Other cars we tried to get to burn out...cabs...the police...and a winebago...
***
Eventually headed into the bar to watch the burlesque...
Met some wonderfully friendly ladies as I pirated some space on the couch...having been standing in my heels for nearly 12 hours...
The show...both bands and the burlesque were fantastic.
***
My apologies to Badcop for keeping him out so late...and my eternal gratitude to Bluevalentine for not only agreeing to babysit my out of town ass...but also for allowing me to spend some time in the aura of her estrogen...something I NEVER thought I'd miss...
***
Thanks to everyone who spoiled my poor ass with entry fees...tasty food...including desert...and whiskey!!!
Someday...I'll have the money to repay the favor...
***
As for tomorrow...I'm coming into my last five classes...fifteen weeks left in Houston...73 days left of class time...
***
But for now...I'm relaxing back in my apartment with my left over meals and whiskey...and a new found respect for The Molly Roger (my car) who did not explode, overheat, or have a wheel pop off during the whole trip...
