I remember snow days.

I remember running outside at regular intervals with my ruler to measure how much snow we'd gotten "so far" in hopes of a snow day...

I remember that hopeful feeling waking up the next day like it was Christmas morning...waiting for my mother to give me the news. How exciting was it to have a day off, right there in the middle of the week?!

As I grew older...for one, I've been in "residential" schools since I was about 14...so snow days don't mean much then....but when I got to college I remember that same kind of feeling, except now it was me in front of the TV, cup of coffee in hand...anxiously reading the scrolling names of school closings over and over and over again until I saw Emerson College...or didn't.

What did I do with my days off when I was in college? I don't remember. Probably not much...but at least it was a day I didn't have to drag my ass into class.

Nowdays I'm a stay at home mom and my son isn't yet in day care or pre-school...so really there's not much excitement when they announce we'll be getting between 5 - 8" of snow. To be honest, in Boston, 5 - 8" is mostly just a dusting...more of an inconvenience than an event.

All it makes me wonder today is if I'll be able to see my midwife or not.
How early can I motivate to get myself to the bank?
And if I DON'T go to see my midwife, will I be able to motivate my almost 9 month pregnant ass outside to watch Roger marvel at the snow?

And there it is...the first flake floating down all on it's own in front of my window.
What's so funny is, the excitement of snow STILL remains...despite the fact it doesn't get me out of the responsibilities of my life. Despite the fact I'm too preggo to play in it, and Roger is still a bit too small for it.
I guarantee we'll still take a walk in it...even if it's just down the block.
