There are some friends who...if you don't see for month or so, things get awkward. You see each other from across a room and you wonder if you should go say hi or wait for them to come over to you.

Then there are friends who you can leave behind, for ten years or more...and when you finally see them again...it's like not a single moment has passed.

Last night I spent time in the company of a couple of those ten year friends...
Together we clinked beers...caught up...and retold lots of old stories.

There's something comforting about being in the company of these friends... The ones who knew you, before YOU knew you... The ones who knew you before you REALIZED you didn't know yourself.... The ones who have already loved you through so many changes you can't help but feel safe and loved...no matter what.

It's surreal to see the rings on their fingers...the pictures of the houses they own...the kids...the scars they have on their knuckles from ten years of back breaking manual labor...

Surreal to be 30 something...and for just a second be 18 again...

What a blessing...
