Also I would say go with the MP3 option. Many people will have cameras at things worth taking pictures of but gyms are boring as hell unless you have music, in my experience.

I can't see a reason you couldn't bring someone else so long as the guest agrees to follow all rules set forth by the group... that is to say you will be responsible... yadda yadda...

God I hate "official" statements. If you're willing to be responsible for your friend they can come. I think this qualifies as a "more the merrier" situation
