Well people do kick stuff in the New Year so there will be hiring going on but may take a couple of weeks to get going and in the meantime
keep illuminating your mom about what it's really like for you - sounds like she's switching off a bit so remind her gently but often

Anyway see it as an opportunity and not a threat and you've got a ton of nice stuff to look forward to in life, you're gorgeous and young and capable you're not loaded with a million commitments. In my experience you never get the three things together - money, time and opportunity. Sometimes for years on end. Make the most of any of those three suckers whenever they do turn up and life won't feel so bad...and living always terrifies me

I don't know what to suggest - perhaps you could train for something? Go have a look round, make stuff, learn stuff it all helps build you up.
