As some of you may remember I have been training all year for a marathon to help raise money for the heart foundation. Well I had been training till my cheapskate self got injured for not buying new running shoes soon enough. If you know what shin splints are you can probably understand how painful and annoying they are since the only way for it to heal is to not train at all.
So for the last month I didn't train at all but this morning I competed in a half marathon (since I had paid for it months ago and hate throwing away money). Crazy I know but amazingly I did not come last, I in fact came 99th out of 100. I also take some pride in the fact that the person I beat was a teenager but not much since a lot of people who beat me were also twice my age.
The good news though is that my injury seems gone so hopefully after taking a day of rest I can get back to my much needed training. The Auckland marathon is only 50 days away after all.
