I went to the ANZAC services at the cenotaph at the Auckland museum today and was shocked at how small the turnout was. Admittedly I shouldn't be one to talk since I haven't been to one in 10 years but considering that 3 soldiers gave their lives this morning when their helicopter crashed on the way to the main service in Wellington I had hoped that more people would have turned up to show their respect.
I guess after 95 years people just don't care that over 2000 of our countrymen gave up their lives in a single day of fighting to keep their young country safe. I am glad though that there are still some like me who atleast try to remember them and have seemed to inherited a distrust of English navigators who cant seem to find the broadside of a barn.
