I can survive two more days. I've had to wait a month in between every time I've seen Joshua. I can do two more days. It's weird to think that we've been together for three months...and we've only seen each other about three times...yeah...three times.

Sifting through photographs of years past
a stubborn one drops to the floor, attempting escape
from its prison.

Tattered edges, the colors have faded by years past
A photograph I once loved,
once hung above my bed, flooding my dreams
now disgraced and forgotten in a shoebox
filled with lost memories.

I had told him to smile as I snapped the shutter button
but as if he could see the future through that camera,
his eyes glanced down, away from the camera
---away from me---

sad grey eyes, wise beyond their years
yet no confidence in themselves
the mouth that once showered mine with kisses
turned oh-so-slightly down

did he see what I passionatly avoided seeing for so long?

he escapes my grasp one last time
landing decisively on top of the photos to go back in storage.
