My mom, who's just a bit exasperating, offers some uncommonly good advice from time to time.

I was sort of anticipating some child support, since I incurred a bit of a debt helping someone out last month and could kind of use it. Unfortunately, my kids' mom lost her job yesterday, fired for taking an unapproved day returning the kids. So it's just as well she neglected to bring a check, as it would "bounce like a rubber ball."

"You catch more flies with sugar," Mom always said. Of course, nobody ever comes on like a bull in a china shop quite like Mom does, but it's sort of tempering me getting really upset about this. You catch more flies with sugar.

Maybe Deb needs a little sympathy and understanding for losing out on a pretty well-paying job. She has a car payment and had planned lots of presents for the kids, and now she can't manage them. She could stand to catch a break.

I could stand to have the extra couple of hundred bucks a month, but right now, she needs a little sugar.
