Listening to "Joanna Newsom" - "The Milk-Eyed Mender" (album) (Got a taste for it again after reading Colette79's comments... first obtained it after a record store employee suggested I check it out in February...)

Today was not the greatest day. It was, however, a full day off from work.

In the morning instead of going away to Nanaimo for training, I called my ride and told them I was too tired to attend today. Training is completely optional, and after I stayed up so late last night, I was in no mood to sit around learning obscure financial information.

When I woke up around noon, my roommate and his girlfriend wanted to go to the Value Village for the big "50% off everything" sale. I was stoked to check it out, only because I thought I was going to finally have my tax return all filed and ready to spend (via instant tax with MoneyMart) on some new furniture. I was originally counting on a return of about four hundred dollars. Unfortunately, there were a few complications.

It turns out that a year ago when I filed my taxes for 2003, I forgot to claim about 3000 dollars in income from my last three months working at Sun Peaks. Because I had moved a few times, I never recieved the T4 and I ignored the job thinking such limited and breif income wouldn't have much effect on my taxes. The unfiled money put me into a higher tax bracket though, consequently costing me more. I recieved too large a return last year (the return that bought my digital camera). So this year... I owe six hundred dollars (minus the four hundred that I am still expecting for this years return)

I went from expecting 400 to owing 200. Boo-urns.

Maybe it's karma for sleeping through that financial training.

Despite my lack of funds, I still decided to go check out the sale at Value Village. I've never been to the VV here in Victoria, so I've got to say that it was kind of impressive (compared to the one I was used to from Kamloops). By the time I got there, my friends were already gone, so I took my time looking around.

I bought one big comfy blue chair. It's gonna sit by my window as my "reading chair".

I also met a girl who was also checking out the sale, and we talked for a very long time about music and the bands that we liked. In fact, the conversation lasted long enough for her to come and borrow a cd from my apartment. Here's a lame twist though... I knew/suspected she was a little younger than me, so I was enjoying just talking and hanging out for a little bit. Unfortunately, she ended up being much younger than I had expected. I don't want to sound lame... but I think our age difference is reason enough for me to not hang out with her.

This is really kind of embarassing/stupid... especially since she now has at least three of my cd's in her possession. Blah.

In the evening I rented "The Butterfly Effect" and ate junk food and pizza with my roommate. It was relaxing. I had never seen the movie before. It turned out to be really amazing though, so I recomend seeing it if you haven't already. (If you have, what are your thoughts?)

Some guys from head office are in tomorrow when I go back to work. And our new KL is here now too. Ugh... too many new managers hanging about always gets me feeling nervous.

I'm generally unimpressed with today. And now it's so late again. Ugh, the vicious cycle. But my spirits aren't completely crushed, and tomorrow is a new day.

It's all happening! (albeit slowly)

That really sucks about the tax return. I actually got audited one year, but it wasn't that bad. Mostly because I don't make enough money to have a very large refund, and therefore, I don't usually owe money either. I haven't even filed for this year yet. Oops!

Well, like you said, tomorrow is another day, and you did get a comfy blue chair, so not all is lost, right? smile

I honestly think that the government doesn't really care when you file your tax return if they owe you money, but when the shoe is on the other foot, watch out!

I think the new Gwen album is so materialistic, but damn if it isn't really catchy. Plus, I like fashion, so if she covets Comme Des Garcons, I can't really hold it against her. smile

I listened to Joanna on the way to work again. It's so unusual, but I really like it. Nikonjustice (my boyfriend), on the other hand, does not. Well, pooh to him, 'cause he likes lots of music that I don't. tongue

Hope you get some sleep!
