I am on the verge of a novel. I really do not know why. I've never had the motivation to write or even express myself in long form prose (re: no odes from me)

BUT

I cannot deny a relatively new urge to put pen to paper - or rather digit to key and backfill a moment in fictional time that currently festers in my brain.

I blame my recent taste for reading. That right after all the book reports, summer readings, and free pans at pizza hut - i've finally realized the merits of the written words.

I truly have the late Kurt Vonnegut to blame - his books Sirens of Titan really got the gears going for me.

And as I motor through my current read - Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep - I think about what my own style may be - what sort of journeys will my characters have - and ultimately will I care once the ideas flow - enough to print them.

How many of you out there - who perchance read my entry - consider yourselves writers?

What motivates you to write?

Is it a compulsion?

A routine? a learned response dug in after years of toil and servitude to the mind?

I have almost answered MY question of why.

But what really gets me going is to know

YOURS.
