A Humanist Update


My friend who was in Thailand got home on Friday night so we went out. We afterpartay'd, we took girls with us from the mel. Tom Grace was smiling so sweetly and Kader stood on a chair in the garden while I was wearing a Waterstones bag on my head with eyeholes cut out, looking like batman. I managed to ellude a young lady and we all had a load of fun but I got the impression that something was afoot. In the house not even a drop of alcohol went down my throat. I remember a hoot at one point, soon after I'd donned the mask, which I guessed would be the new girls discovering 'Introducing Existentialism' and 'Only Six Numbers' on the kitchen table. When the leader of the gang picks you up for the benefit of his crew's afterparty and less for promiscuity and you decide that he is a weirdo, you talk to his friend and your wouldabeen suitor is now wearing a plastic bag, and there is enlightenment, all the girls laugh, gaufouring especially because I'm shaking my bottom in the cold with a ciggerette by myself outside.
