OH YEAH! Sonny Chiba (who if you don't know him previous, was Hitori Hanzo in Kill Bill) has a VERY small cameo in BR II as Shinji Mimura's uncle, the one who he kept mentioning was fighting the government.

Yeah, I probabaly wasn't supposed to laugh during Beat's death scene, but I HAD to when he got up to answer his phone!
You'll be pleased to know that the manga is MUCH closer to the novel. The teacher has a different name once again, but he's just as sadistic. (they do, however, tell some REALLY fucked up stories about Mitsuko Souma's past...quite graphically, too)
