I don't know if it's because it was the first week back at work after 10 days of vacation, of if the first work week of the year was just doomed, but damn this week kicked my ass! I didn't particularly have to work any overtime (well, except for a couple hours tonight but that was pretty much my own fault) but work was just _draining_. I imagine it's the same in any creative business (I'm a game developer), you just put in all that effort and energy all week and sometimes it doesn't give much back. Thankfully it's over now and I can get to some serious relaxation! Well, semi-serious anyway.
Even though my birthday was last month my birthday party isn't until January 29th because it's just easier to throw a party after the holiday crazy has died down. It's a costume party, and (hopefully) a big one, so I have a bunch of costume work left to do. So my weekends are all volcano hits and walks in the park, sadly. On the other hand all of the work I have to do is making awesome stuff, so at least it will be fun. I'm just about finished with the vest I'm making (note: menswear is freaking difficult to get right!) and now I'm on to all the embellishments. I think the next big project is going to be building tiny fetus-like sculptures out of old watch gears & parts. I'm going to put them inside some cool bottles (they look like potion bottles) with a green, viscous liquid and hang them from a bandoleer or belt or something.
When I write it out like that it sounds kinda lame, but I swear it looks cool in my head!
Then at some point I need to build a device prop. I'm thinking some kind of drink-scanner-meter-thing. It doesn't have to work, of course, but I'd at least like it to have some flashing and moving bits. Given that I'm a complete electronics noob I expect it will take me weeks to get it all going, but hopefully it will look fantastic (at least in low light) when I'm done.
The first order of business, though, is to get caught up on my sleep!
