Well that's another weekend been and gone. Crikey, hard to believe we're already half-way through 2005 eh? Feels like only yesterday I was trying to make plans with what to do with the year, tsk...

So, Friday a friend came over and we tried a new boardgame called Hour of Glory which he was supposed to be revieeing for the designer/manufacturer. Was a laugh, but frankly I wasn't impressed with the mechanics, which led to the Nazi guards chasing my Allied agents around cackhandedly as if they were keystone cops. Ah well.

Saturday wandered south of the river to pretend to be a superhero for a few hours, and then came home to watch Audition (finally). I'd been warned to expect unpleasantness, and indeed it was rather unpleasant, although perhaps not as bad as I had feared (maybe that's just my twisted imagination for you).

Sunday wandered to the UGC in the Docklands hoping to catch The Skeleton Key, but strangely they weren't showing it until late evening so I settled for Stealth and Charlie & The Chocolate Factory instead. Stealth turned out to be rather enjoyable, and in retrospect the trailer doesn't necessarily do it justice - whilst you clearly *are* supposed to leave your brain at the door it doesn't cut corners or defy common sense in the same way as many other films of the genre have done (including the previous efforts by the same director) in the days between this and Top Gun (which it's clearly riffing off). Charlie was pretty cool too, although TBH I was disappointed that it was almost identical to the original (albeit with less songs and more Wonka backstory).

I'm also quite excited at finishing the first draft of my first short story - 12,500 words in a about three weeks - feels like a real breakthrough compared to my usual procrastination. Now pondering on what to tackle next - so many ideas, and so little time!

Also will be off to France on Friday morning for a few days to go see my (estranged) dad. We catch up about every six months, say little of real value to each other, but I guess it's cool all the same. The alternative would be to just give up and, well *shrugs* family's family, for better or for worse...

After 3 very cool series of Alias, of which I'm not even sure if it's the 2nd or 3rd that's my favourite, and with such distinct differences between each series that this distinction is actually meaningful. I'm willing to cut Abrams some slack. smile
