Finally got around to seeing Punch Drunk Love on Friday. I'm not a big Adam Sandler fan, but lots of people said it was his best work, and I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed. He was still riffing on the uber-innocent 30-going-on-12 routine, but this time it was pretty dark and unpredictable. Was actually quite nerve-wracking to watch, not just because of the disjointed and claustrophobic music score but because you really didn't know what his character was going to do next. Was also pretty disturbing to feel that in some ways I could actually relate to his character. In some ways I suppose you could consider it a black comedy but I didn't find it that funny. Kinda the same as Falling Down where I *totally* empathised with D-Fens and when they try and make him the bad guy at the end it just leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. Bottom line is some people are just too dissonant to fit in, and society will opress them rather than embrace them. That doesn't mean they've done anything wrong, or that they don't need help in some way. Guess I'm rambling again, but these kinda things do kinda get to me. F***ers.
In other news just spent two days pretending to be a superhuman mutant in the world of the X-Men (Saturday) and an all-powerful machiavellian master vampire (Sunday). Now having to face Real Life and do chores at home before work (ugh) resumes tomorrow...
Also panicking about the preperation I have to do for stuff in October. And I have magazine articles to write about games I haven't got a clue about. And I've been asked by the same publishers to come up with another board game for another one of their lines. Tsk. If I only I didn't *have* to go to work, I'd have all the time in the world...
