Well xmas is upon us again. It's weird to think what this particular celebration represents and how it's changed over the years. Like so many things it seems to bring out both the best and the worst in humanity.

So what if the Christan myth is a farce and today's event is a gluttonous, commercially-driven monster? So what if Father Christmas was invented by Coca Cola 100 years ago? So what if people should be nice to each other 365 days of the year instead of just one or two selected days?

Seeing people on the street gripped with the festive spirit is nevertheless a heart-warming feeling. Seeing people smile at each other or talk on the tube is something to be genuinely celebrated. And, love or hate your family, there's little that can beat seeing them appreciate you getting something that they wanted.

If you think you're having bad Christmas though because people are getting on your tits or things aren't quite going to plan, bite your lip and spare a thought for those that *really* could be having a better time. Not everyone has presents under the tree, food under the table or even a home or a family to go to.

Xmas is the time of year to appreciate what you have, and to understand what you can give. Nobody should ever take anything for granted, which is what the message of the original pagan festival was in the first place. During the Winter Solstice there was no gaurantee that the sun would come up or that Summer would return, and people would have to pledge themselves to do better, and try harder, and give thanks for what came before. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Have a good one everyone. I'll either see you on the 30th or in 2007. wink
