I read this quote the other day, from a soldier in the 3rd Infantry that clears Big Fucking Technologicaly Advanced, Tactically Placed Bombs (or as the army likes to call them "improvised" explosive devices/IED's). A bomb went off next to him while he was driving down a road, in a country that does "belong" to him, that he is occupying (by choice). It went off, and flames entered his car. It burnt his neck, his hands, part of his face. 2nd degree burns...
His response?
Something along the lines of "I know now that I can die, but I still want to be here to get the insurgents, I realise that I burnt for a second, but each night I think about how the insurgents will burn for an eternity.".......
What is it with these absolutes?
I was thinking today about what it would be like if I applied absolutes like this to my political, and moral beliefs. If so I would be able to do the following:
1. Kill all owners, employees, and supporters of transnational box stores such as Walmart regardless of their age, status, or place within the companies frame of opperation.
2. Kill all peole that work within the gas industry (including the cute asian couple that sells gasoline down the street).
3. Kill all christians regardless of if they are fundemantalist or not
4. Kill all muslims regardless of if they are fundemantalist or not
5. Kill all jews regardless of if they are fundemantalist or not
6. Kill all capitalist regardless of if they are rich or not
7. all white people
8. all black people.
9 all mexicans
10 farmers
11. miners
12 gun owners ect....
....... the list goes on. I can't fucking believe how polarized, absolute, black and white this world is. How one action, comitted by a small group of single minded individuals, can automatically condemn an entire race to a lifetime of war.
You know what I don't deal in absolutes, I don't deal in blanket statements like this, and thank god eh?
But I will say this FUCK THAT TROOP (whether he got burnt or not) FUCK HIM for being so openlly bigoted, for volunterally/willingly/blissfully being part of a fascist machine that exports death to third world nations. And fuck anyone who believes, like him, that "all people" of one catagory are some how automatically guilty enough for an eternity of suffering.

yes, it was a blanket statement, and very generalized, and that man is probably the epitome of christian fundamentalism,
but when someone is prepared to die for his country, he should feel so strongly about his beliefs. everyone is a radical in some aspect of their beliefs.
