So I've finally admitted it to myself.
There is a revolution going on right now in america. It's not mine, it's not yours, it's not the homeless mans on the streets. But that doesn't change the fact that it has started.
The revolution that is taking place is by the Right. And it wasn't until I realised the other day, that we have four more years of this, that I saw how destructive this force really is.
For years the fundamentalist element to this society has been buying it's time. It tried helplessly to throw it's hands up in the air durring the sixties and seventies, but to no avail.
It wasn't until the 90's with the resurgence of militia groups. christian cults, and right wing racist extremists that we really began to see the potential for destruction coming from this faction of our nation. Waco, Ruby Ridge, the meetings in Colorado. All of these events inspired countless fundamentalists to action. The hatred, contempt, and angst grew, and most people didn't see it coming.
During Clinton, America was the great satan.
Under Bush it is the great savior.
Bush is these people's president. He is their savior. Come to return them to the holy land, to mecca. He has inspired them, imboldened them and they are getting out of control. The similarities between contemporary USA and early Fascist Italy at the moment fill me with dread.
and let's make no mistake. It was a "revolution" that brought, and kept Mussolini in power.
