I think eugene made me soft when if came to two things.... frown First one is the weather, I miss the never colder then 30, just kind of misty winters. But then again I don't cause it really wasn't that cool.

The second though was my ability to deal with a hardcore critique. Before I went to the U of O I had had my art thrown on the ground and told it was shit, I had had my letter grade dropped for smudgy labels, been told my art work looked so controlled that the professor wondered if I beat my girl friend, you know all that good stuff...

Welll yesterday I had one of those critiques, and it wasn't even that bad, it was just brutal. No accusations that I beat Mogwa came out of the woman's mouth though... wink

I got critiqued by this woman Linda Weintraub who I guess is some kind of authority in contemporary art, she writes books, and people get made, blah blah blah. But anway I had fifteen minutes with her, and she basically told me that everything I am doing right NOW is totally and absolute crap, and everything that I did in my BFA year is "alright" but could be better if I did it her way. I walked away from it feeling like I was waisting time, and money, and that all the possitive feedback I had gotten didn't mean shit. Kind of spent yesterday in that haze. But I got in an arguement with her in front of like seventy people about if it was ethical to publish a book about the eco-artist movement using traditional printing techniques. She was talking about how great her life was 'cause she was rich enough to live within the eco-art movement and not make an impact on the planet. So I called her out on it, and told her that she couldn't print a book about eco-art without betraying not only the ideals of the artists, but also of herself since she claimed to be a part of it. Needless to say, she changed the subject when faced with a tough question...

Anyway I really let it get under my skin for some odd reason. I think it had something to do with her status, but then I walked away from the day as a whole, and I decided that that is the most bullshit thing I have ever let happen to me in several years. Sure it's personal, and understandable that I was hurt, but FUCK THAT!!! The people that make good art make it by flipping off the women/men like herself and going completely against everytihng they say. Not to mention that she claims to know what is contemporary and is almost seventy!!!!!!

On a side note we're going to an anti-nazi protest in Kingston this weekend, and I am really excitted. I don't know the scene here, but I do know that the ARA is threatening to defend themselves if the Nazi's get violent. Fucking Nazi's!!! I've been surprissed how many are out here in these hills! FUCK! They're everywhere. Ever since I've been here I have been watching Jewish Buroughs get trashed, like once every month, or two weeks. It's out of control...

I'm passing up a Modern Life Is War show to go to it, but this is more important then seeing a fucking band!!!!

that lady reminds me of all the rich leftist types who pat themselves on the back because they're wealthy enough to live up to the high standards they've set for themselves with their ideals. i got sick of intellectual type things because someone could be spewing total bullshit and total crap, but as long as they carry themselves in a professional manner, people will buy into it because that person can sound like they know what they're talking about.

jeez, i'm really out of the ARA loop. let me know how that goes. there's also an anti-racists group on SG that darksphere is leader of.
