have you ever been forced to look at your friends while they suffer immensely and realize how excellent they are and how much you love them based on how they behave under terrible conditions?

we just got back from the hospital visiting a friend who just found out she'll be on dialysis for the rest of her life unless she can get a kidney transplant....

Q: how do you make a vegetarian chili?

A: you lock em in the freezer.

i just heard that on the radio. they were talking about some chili place in iowa, the caucauses, and kucinich.

yesterday i heard the term "monkey bath." that's when the tub is full of water that is so hot you go "ooo-ooo-aaaaa----aaaa" as you lower yourself into it. that's funny!...

ice storm in portland! i uploaded some photos we took today, check em out.

as my friend chad says, it's colder than a witches tit in a brass bra out there.

it was fun walking around on these shelves of ice. if you jumped you could crash through them a few inches and your feet would be surrounded by big plates of ice. crazy.

from the interview with dennis kucinich that is the cover story of our next issue:

Well, Ive always been an environmentalist. Ive always stood strong for human rights and have been a supporter of animal rights. But I became a vegan out of love. I met someone who was a vegan nine years ago and when I tried it a vegan diet I found that...

Isn't that a funny photo. Fergus hates the flash on my camera. He blinks every single time...

It would be awsome if this person got elected. Just gotta defeat the meat / agri-business industry and all the money they give to politicos first.

Nice quote in the interview. Yahoo!

the oregonian newspaper called to ask me what the reaction was within the vegetarian community about mad cow disease.

since i never really leave my house and the only community i engage in is on this site in the veggie group, i just went ahead and spoke confidently as if that was the entire vegetarian world's view.

"we hope all you meatmouths get sick and...

hey.

do you talk to Rose or stop by the divine cafe often? what is it you do that the oregonian views you as an authority?
pharaoh:
okay, i've seen your mag and your shirts. you used to supply shirts to the vegan shoe store over on broadway, right? too bad they closed. yeah, i used to live right over on 9th & Knott, so i could walk over to the divine cafe whenever the need hit me... it was my hangover remedy. i was bummed when they moved downtown. but i guess her business tripled, so good for her.

the newsstand right down the street from me had your first issue, but seeing as how i'm unemployed i had to read what i could standing at the newsstand. i love it when people can eek out a little dough without working for the man.

LA in the winter is great. sunny and somewhat warm. it's a bit too smoggy in the hot months, but it's hard to top a Portland summer. The food is excellent. lots and lots of vegan options. some of them even deliver! and all of the ethnicities (sp?) means lots of kick ass african and indian food. now i just need to hunt down the middle eastern places. i miss Nicholas' over on Grand (or is it MLK?) soooo much.

have you ever seen the movie "Elephant Parts"? your listed occupation made me think of it. if not, in it there's a vegetarian big game hunter who goes into a supermarket with a shotgun and starts blowing away lettuce and tomatoes and such...

on the plane ride to alabama:

"our meal today is a crossant sandwich with ham, cheese, and egg, and a banana. and for the vegetarians onboard....a banana...."

the trip, as always, was bitter sweet. i got to see my excellent uncle and aunt, but also got to hear my cousin say something to the effect that it would be fine with him if we still...

sweet baby jesus, i'm so glad i have my own postage machine at home. the post office, while appearing in good spirits, was packed. and since i have an acute allergy to humanity, good thing i didn't have to stand in line. when the line goes out the double doors and you have a big tub of packages, people don't like it when you "excuse...

it's funny. i'm 30 and 3 quarters years old. i was just driving to UPS to ship a box to MooShoes in New York. I'm driving along listening to a Misfits cassette (punk and disorderly comp on the other side) I've had since i was 14 years old (that's one sturdy cassette, i tell you what.) So I'm driving, doing my best Danzig voice to...

I got your magazine, cool guy. It really, seriously rocks smile It's so cool to read a magazine where vegetarianism isn't presented as a freaky dinky thing. And is it weird that I love the ads? As soon as I get a break, I'm gonna spend some time typing in the urls from the ads- you can find some really interesting things that way, at least that's how I found your site back in the day. I haven't heard of that band, but I"m not from these parts, so they could still be around for all I know. I'll keep an eye out.
