Remember the Nineties
I had the television on the other day, and on VH1, they're doing some sort of tribute to the nineties. I was highly offended because they didn't talk about a lot of the really cool things that were going on back then. They just made fun of the things that I would really love to foget. So now every Wednesday and Thursday for a few weeks, I'm going to write about the 90's, the decade which I guess is the decade that had such a tremendous impact on me. Feel free to add pictures or post some memories that you had during that era. I feel weird for doing this, because of my age. Noone that I know remembers the 80's or 90's, because they were all on drugs. So here it is.
In 1991, I was a year away from graduating from St. Mary of Redford middle school in Detroit. There was still a bit of a culture shock for me, from switching schools, and nations, and such. Previously I went to a fairly laxed Lutheran school in Amerstberg, Ontario. Not only did I have to adjust to a city full of a majority of just one ethnicity, I had to deal with very strict catholic nuns, who I grew to love. Bryan Adams was big back then. I started taking guitar lessons when I was in 5th grade. My mother thought that I wanted to start taking lessons, my father wanted to know where his Gibson Les Paul disappeared to. That was not the case. I just got into metal. Unfortunately, I started out on an old Harmony acoustic guitar. I had no clue what a distortion peddle was, or any other effects peddle for that matter. Still, I wanted to be a "butt rocker". Eventually My instucter, Mr. Lamont, who has to be dead by now, recomended to my dad that I should get an electric guitar. My first electric guitar was another harmony. It looked like a strat, but felt, and played the complete opposite. I didn't care though. It was an electric guitar.
I used to have one of those kidnplay haircuts. The due where it was tapered on the sides, and high, and flat on top. I was trying to fit in. But then came the twisty braids, which I never got.
That's it for 1991.
This starts off slow, but get ready for 1992 which I'll probably post before I leave tomorrow night. It will be much more entertaining.
