I saw a mind-blowing documentary on the DVD today.

"The Corporation" is in some ways a tough film to watch.... But it is one that is very worth seeing and in my mind more important and frightening then Fahrenheit 9-11 .. ****1/2

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

This is my first time trying the spoiler ... I just think this movie is too interesting and did want to reveal some of it...

For one, it will knock you back a bit ... Its very thoughtful and the website http://thecorporation.com/ recommends hosting a DVD party to show it .. If you are thoughtful and concerned about corporate power its worth doing and seeing.

It also gives an ample opportunity to talk to someone about the movie right after smile)

The movie starts with the idea of a psychological study of what type of person a corporation would be ... The answer is a psychopath.

One issue with corporations in law is that it is legally a "person" .. Mainly through Supreme Court decisions in the late 19th Century ... This means it has the right of a person in court and other matters.

This sound minor but has vast effects. ... Corporations are basically mandated to work for shareholders as well ... This has the perverse effect of making CEOs/Boards think it makes sense to fire 10% of the workforce and to have a 20% profit margin one year (and then wonder where their talent went) .. It also leads to pollution, child labor and other maladies...

Suffice it to say I really liked this movie and if you are a non-bushie/corporatist you should see it ...

Really good!

I also saw Wallace and Gromit .. which was fun and quite silly ... I didn't like it as much as Chicken Run or the shorts but it made me laugh and smile ***1/4

I am also embarking on National Novel Writing Month in November ... http://www.nanowrimo.org/

I will attempt to write 50,000 words in november ... There is no need to be perfect, just to write .. Should be quite a cure for writers block ...

Cheers... ecq

Extra update today ....

Had a great day subbing.

Actually watched two really good movies subbing today.

One was "Jason and the Argonauts" ... I have been wanting to see this for quite some time. It is one of Ray Harryhausen's most famous movies, and I loved the stop action photography .... Especially Talos ... Quite worth seeing and fun ... ***1/2

The other was the grand and very silly and fun, "The Little Prince." ... Its quite a shame that Donen did so few movies in the last few decades of his life... This is a musical and quite a lot of fun ....

I really enjoyed this and laughed a lot at/with it ... If you see this tell me if you think Bob Fosse's performance as the snake reminds you as Michael Jackson in his Thriller/Billie Jean days .... really fun ****.

Thats all for now.

What I remember of Germany was great, but I was a wee little thing, so the things I remember are very kid-like memories. I remember taking a trip to Berlin in an orange VW bug. I remember going to England to see Buckingham Palace. Actually, I remember a lot about the castles we visited.
Mostly, I remember going to the konditerei every Sunday afternoon and getting chocolate eggs, or cakes or these hazelnut cookies that I loved.
I haven't been back yet, but I would love to go.
