come on Listerine. make me a saint
make me a dream. make my teeth clean
sing me a song no one has heard
and very few will like. and it'll be alright with me
i'm telling the story to an empty room
of the time I turned the light on
where there had been no light previously
and then I could see. but so could everybody
and it wasn't a big deal but somehow
it just stood out in my memory.
you know how some things can be. just a little strange
but it doesn't make you a stranger. these things
are relative and subjective and aren't decided so easily.
I don't believe in the existence of objectivity.
I don't believe in my own wings
until I jump and start flying and end up still living
and the sun could rise in the morning
or it could turn into a sandwich or a spider
or an insirance salesman
or you could tell me there was never a sun
and if there wasn't one present at the time of the discussion
I couldn't actually prove you wrong
but even if it was bright and shiny and high in the sky
I couldn't state conclusively that you'd lose the debate.
or even that it would go on very long
sometimes I'm inclined to agree or disagree
come on Listerine... I'm no trucker but I've seen
my share of roads and streets
seen the losers beat the elites. and the birds drop
like stones from the trees
while the leaves hang on tenaciously
through the seasons. an abomination to reason
but unarguably pretty to see.
