i always wanted an english accent. my girlfriend told me yesterday that i actually do sometimes. maybe it's from reading all those douglas adams and terry pratchett and neil gaiman literature. i always try to keep my internal reading voice umm... author- and location-specific, if you know what i mean. i also do pretty fair impressions, so that would help.

in american terms, i probably live very close to Londonderry, but in Irish terms, well, to me it's quite far. It's probably only like an hours drive away, but there are many differences in accents and politico-religious affiliations along the way. when i found that link, i thought it wouldn't sound like my accent, but it turned out that it was pretty similar.
you'll notice that for the second language of the chap whose voice they sampled, they've put 'ulster-scots', which in my opinion is a bogus language. it's bad regional english of a kind spoken before they had national television, and that's about as far as it gets! but, it just so happens that I live in the heart of Ulster-Scots country, and it's probably the Ulster-Scots influence that makes my accent sound similar to the bloke talking in that clip. (his accent sounds nothing like what I would consider to be a Derry accent).
