My ex girlfriend said something today that I think was kind of profound. At least I thought it was. It ran along the lines of we put so much energy into relationships, and trying to find love, and we do this simply because we're slaves to the old human impulse to procreate in order to further species. She then claimed that if we relaxed and put that energy into more positive ventures the world would be a better place, and we'd still find ourselves in a relationship we'd rather not be in anyway. I just told her that had always been my philosophy.
I also get a laugh out of the fact that I'm only friends with my ex girlfriend when she's not dating anyone. If I'm dating someone it doesn't matter. I'm not sure if we'd be friends if we we're both dating other people.Probably not since I've never liked anyone she's dated after me and vice versa, but it would make for some interesting dinner conversation I suppose.
Also I find it interesting that when I was down in Atlanta visiting her recently I went Vegan out of respect to her new found beliefs in that regard. Whereas the girlfriend whom I had broken up with only a few weeks before has been a vegitarian for the last 10 years and I'd have no qualms about eating a hunk of meat in front of her. We'd nbe drunk at some bar and she'd order cheese fries, and I'd get a plate of buffalo wings and think nothing of it. I'm sure there's something in all this but I'm not going to do any more than pose a few questions. I'm going to stick to the solid American belief that looking into things too deeply only causes trouble.
