So I have been kicked out of my photo program at school. Kind of strange to be kicked out of a class at my advanced age. I was never kicked out of school when I was a kid and I've only been fired from a job once, when I was 20. There has always been friction between myself and my instructor ever since I entered the program. He's one of the oddest people I have ever met. But, that's kind of what I like about him, too.
He's very passionate and extremely knowledgeable about photography (he's been teaching it since he was 23, he is now 52) at the same time he gets to personal with his small group of students. Everyone knows each other really well, and we all hang out together. The term "student/teacher relationship" doesn't apply here. It's more like a little family then a photo program. And, that has always been my problem with him. He's like a father and we're all his "kids", regardless of age. The students in this program range from 18 to 52.
He is crass and can be very rude and downright mean to people sometimes. Very unprofessional for an instructor, and many students have quit because of him. Yet I have learned a lot from him and he will be missed. He just pushed me a little to far the other night (I won't go in to details) and I lost it. I'm not perfect.. I've had my share of fuck-ups, but I didn't deserve this.
So now I'm out and I have been set back an entire semester. I'm going to work on my own for awhile until summer and finish my courses at another school that I have heard good things about. I hope things workout.
