Update: I'm now in the top 22% of the nearly one million players in CNBC's Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge, moving up from the top 40% at the beginning of the week. Still, my portfolio's value is well behind that of the leaders, who have somehow managed to grow their initial one million dollar investment into a portfolio valued at more than two and half million....

Anyone else playing the CNBC Portfolio Challenge? Players get one million dollars in play money to invest in a fictional portfolio. At the end of ten weeks, the player with the most valuable portfolio wins a million dollar annuity. The contest started in March and runs through May.
So far, I'm doing ok. I'm in the top 40 percent and I've been up as much...

All weekend, I've been watching the "Alfred Hitchcock Presents--Season One, Disk One dvd. When you see the shows one after another, you become aware of the episodes' recurring tropes and themes: for instance, people with identical doubles, or tough bosses who heartlessly sack their employees. "A Bullet for Baldwin" with Sabastian Cabot actually manages to combine the two.
My favorite episode, "Breakdown," directed by Hitch...

Thx for the birthday wishes

I can't believe Donald Trump received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I mean the guy isn't even in show business--he's in real estate. The Walk of Fame has always been limited to celebrities in the media. Being on a reality show doesn't count--at least it should't.
Also, celebrities should receive one star and one star only! The practice of giving multiple stars,...

And the next day... my heating bill came
I'm remaining in neutral spirits though... I've been in much worse situations.
I agree about Trump, but cut Rick Dees a break. He was one of my favorite radio personalities and did a lot of television work through the 80s and 90s (no, not just Hollywood Squares).

And so it's 2007, year four of the war in Iraq. Tonight, the President will announce his "new" strategy for winning: more of the same.
I hope we've finally learned our lesson this time. In the future, if we're going to practice gunboat diplomacy, we should stick to invading Grenada.

Forget the resolutions and go straight to the To-Do list. It's gonna work out this year.

Did anyone see the Knicks game? They won on a buzzer-beater for the second night in a row. With only 1/10th of a second on the clock, the Knicks scored on the only way possible, under the Trent Tucker Rule --by a tip-in. David Lee received Jamal Crawford's inbound pass and tipped it in! Amazing!

Nice to see the membership is growing in SG Pulp Fiction, the group I started that's devoted to mystery, horror, sword and sorcery, space opera, westerns--the stuff that was the mainstay of the old pulp magazines. We're up to 24 members.
Now if we could just get a good discussion going....

Thanks for offering my potential good points. Gotta continue living up to those ideals! Being compared to Doc Savage is an interesting pleasure.
I see SG is messing around with the web site design again. Not sure I like the changes.

Smileys and inserts don't work anymore either.
thefly:
No, know that... I mean clicking on them doesn't enter them into the text window. Clicking on Member Name wouldn't let me enter a name, not all the time.
Growing pains I suppose
(see, manually had to insert that :mad : above)
