I'm starting to see new activity on inktip.com. Someone from the production company of Darren Grant' (director of "Diary of a Mad Black Woman) just read my logline for "Bordertown."

I'd be so happy if someone just options it. I really believe in this script and, lord knows, I put my heart into it.

What happens if somebody options it?
hecklongtree:
When a producer options a screenplay, the writer, for a relatively small sum, gives the producer a certain amount of time to raise money to purchase the script. During that time, the producer is given exclusivity, meaning the writer can't shop the script around to other producers.

It sounds like a pretty bad deal, and it usually is, but beggars can't be choosers, and, at this point, I'm begging a producer, any producer, to show some interest in my screenplays.

I listed my latest script on inktip, com, where writers list log lines, treatments, synopses and scripts for producers to read. Mostly, the producers just look at the log line postings, but in the last two weeks two producers downloaded my script.

I'm not getting my hopes up too much, but I can't help but be a little encouraged.

I think I'm going to take down my submission, "Bordertown," from TriggerStreet.com.

I'm not getting many thoughtful, well-reasoned reviews, so what's the point of leaving it up? Well, actually it's gone beyond that. They're actually panning it. In fact, there are some comments that might actually be considered flaming.

Why do people have to be like that? They could just say they don't like it....

Nobody knows who you are on the internet. People can be subconsciously very angry or bitter, or just complete tossers, and they enjoy being rude to others. It sucks, but that's life I'm afraid.

It looks like I'm never going to sell my screenplays. Hell, I can't even get anyone to read them.

Oh well, maybe I'll try again to get some short stories published.

In life, you have to get knocked back about a thousand times before you get a result. It sucks, but that's life I suppose, and it means the most determined people are sucessful.

I just posted my feature film screenplay on TriggerStreet.com, the Kevin Spacey-founded online writer-community site. I think you have to register to read the scripts, but you can do so for free. In any case, I invite everyone to read the script and give me your impressions. You can even review it on the site.

As for finding the script on TriggerStreet.com, you shouldn't have...

Can't wait to read it. Do you know of any other Internets to post stories/novels? I've written something and would like to do so.

thank you so much for the comment!

that triggerstreet site is really interesting...i've taken screen writing classes and i can definitely relate to how much effort it takes to put into a script. i'm sure yours is great and i'll definitely take a look.

We read my screenplay "Bordertown" at the Long Island Screenwriters Group. The group, mostly comprised of actors, read members' scripts aloud and comment on them.

It didn't go quite as well as I hoped. For one thing, they all found it difficult to read. The script contains a lot of unfamiliar words and Spanish words. They had a lot of trouble just pronouncing them.

As...

I finally decided to participate and now it's even worse: You have to read four scripts, all of which are assigned! I'm just in a masochistic mood, I guess. And make no mistake, these scripts are bad. They're not even written in proper screenplay form, which really bothers me, since it shows laziness. It doesn't take long to learn--not if you're willing to make an...

How are things in screenwriterland?
strega:
Well, I suppose that is true. I think what makes it so irritating is that I know these people had ample opportunity to learn the practical aspects of practice. We all went to the same law school. I just get frustrated that they don't seem to know how to do the simplest things.

Anyway, good luck with the screenplays. smile

I joined TriggerStreet.com awhile back. Founded about 5 years ago by Kevin Spacey, the site allows writers to post screenplays for review, provided they review other writers' scripts. Initially, you had to write two reviews before you could upload your own script--one assigned to you, the other, one of your own choosing. I didn't participate because that requirement seemed too burdensome.

I finally decided to...

I registered with InkTip.com, a service which posts screenwriters' log lines ( TV Guide description) in the hope of attracting producers who use the site to find scripts. I'm trying to figure out which is a better log line for my screenplay "Bordertown":

1. A private eye operating out of a U.S.-Mexico border hamlet investigates a Mexican version of the JFK assassination, complete with multiple...

I'm trying to sell my screenplay, "Bordertown." Log line: A private eye from a U.S.-Mexico border hamlet investigates a Mexican politician's murder.

My plan is to look for movies that are at all similar to my script and send query letters to the production companies that made them. The problem is my script is pretty unusual and doesn't have any close antecedents. I found the address...

Ever tried the Writer's Market? It's more geared towards literature (my niche) but there are listings for companies accepting screenplays. There's also Guide to Literary Agents. Both books are by the Writer's Market Press, here

There's also always Peters and Guber wink

Good Luck.
