I decided to make some changes to my screenplay "Bordertown," some major, some minor. First the minor: I've changed some names. Miguel Diaz is now Miguel Guerrero. For some reason, it just sounded better. I also changed Eva's name, since, in Mexico, she wouldn't have the same last name as her husband. Typically, she would drop her maternal surname, add a "de" and then add her husband's paternal surname. Say, her maiden name was Eva Garcia Fernandez, her maternal surname being Fernandez. Upon marrying Miguel Guerrero, she'd drop the Fernandez and call herself Eva Garcia de Guerrero, which is what I now call her. What can I say? I'm a stickler for details.

Next the major changes. I've decided to change the first act, so that it closes with the Guerrero assassination, ends with a bang, so to speak. In Act I, Pocho and Jon look for "the other woman," only to discover a whole bunch of people with a motive to kill Guerrero. In Act II, they confront various obstacles to their murder investigation, a couple of which I've already posted in my journal, in one form or another. The attorney general hires Pocho and Jon ostensibly to look into the murder, but really to lead them astray. He hires a phony psychic to send Pocho and Jon on a fool's errand searching for the assassin's body (the body really belongs to one of the psychic's relatives). After Pocho confronts the attorney general about the scam, he's attacked by Los Intocables (The Untouchables). Finally, in the third act, Pocho solves the case.

With these changes, the script will conform to the standard three act screenplay structure: Act I (setup), Act II (confrontation), Act III (resolution).
