Just saw the banner ad at the top of the page for "Faster, Pussycat! Kill!Kill!" on TCM at 2 a.m. tonight. It's a classic Russ Meyer film, filled with action, adventure and, of course, boobs. Most guys are probably attracted to Tura Satana and the other bad girls in the film. Me, I'm drawn to the good girl--and love of my life--Sue Bernard. Playmate data...

I love B grade horror films, especially Italian ones. But Russ is totally one of the Kings!

It does seem like you need to have some major age and/or diseases to win a lifetime achievement award in Oscarland
The Mets fell short this year in their pursuit of the world championship. Wait till next year!
The Mets won game 6 of the NLCS. Just one more victory to win the penant and move on to the World Series!
Anyone heard about the CSI New York with the Suicide Girls storyline? In the Wednesday, October 18 episode, the CSI team investigate the murder of an Suicide Girl following an SG burlesque show. Here's a link to the CBS web site in case you want to check out the promo. CBS

(The "pulp fiction" group, I mean.)
I'm considering starting a group devoted to pulp fiction--not the Tarantino movie, but the type of stories that originally appeared in the 20's through 50's in such magazines as Argosy, Weird Tales and Black Mask. Discussions will be open to all genres appearing in those mags (horror, science fiction, detective stories, westerns, sword and sorcery, etc.) and to the works of such great pulp writers...

Rented Brides of Dracula yet?
Great idea for the group... I'm afraid I'll learn more than I can offer but that would be great too... I've never checked out anything but pulp noir. Got a logo yet?
I drove to my alma mater the other day and delivered the professor I dedicated it to a copy of the book. I don't think I've ever known anyone so appreciative of a gesture of adoration. Between your tenacity to get the book and his thankfulness I feel a success if it doesn't do anymore than it has. So, thanks. He's going to offer feedback and show it to the chair of the Humantities dept. Maybe something could come from that.

I'm on a Spaghetti Western kick. Of the pictures I've seen recently, Sergio Corbucci''s "Django" really sticks in my mind: Django (Franco Nero) traveling around dragging a coffin behind him, the ubiquitous mud, the quicksand, the infamous ear cutting scene--much more graphic than the one in "Reservoir Dogs."

Someone actually beats out Eli Wallach as the best non-Mexican Mexican?! I never grew beyond Eastwood's offerings.
Thank God a book finally arrived! Enjoy at your leisure and offer your feedback.

They won again, wtih Beltran hitting a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 9th. That puts the Mets 28 games over 500.! And to think people were surprised last year when they eked out a winning record.
For me, though, 2005 was like 1968, the year the Mets showed improvement, acquired some new talent (e.g. Tommy Agee, Tom Seaver the year before ) and...

Let me know what happens so I can address the issue if need be.

Arthur Lee died this summer. So did Mickey Spillane. My heroes are dropping like flies. At least, Sam the Sham is still alive.
I found out about Arthur Lee's death from an SG post that had a link to YouTube, which had clips of Arthur with both the original Love and with a recent touring group. I'd never been to this web site before, but...

Well, the Midsummer Classic is over and, once again, the American League won. And, since Baseball Commissioner Selig decided that the All-Star Game winner gets home field advantage in the World Series, that means that, once again, home field advange will go to an American League team.
Bud Selig implemented that rule after the 2002 All-Star Game, when, to please the fans, both mangers used...

"Broken Trail," the Walter Hill-directed AMC Western miniseries with Robert Duvall and Thomas Haden Church is a cross between "Deadwood," "Open Range" and "Ride the High Country." It combines the slowness and talkiness of the first two with the plot of the third. In Sam Peckinpah's "Ride the High Country," Steve Judd (Joel McCrea), Gil Westrum (Randolf Scott) and Heck Longtree (Ron Starr) are transporting...

In Ingmar Bergman's "Winter Light (1961)," a pastor counsels a parishioner who's disturbed by a newspaper article on how the Chinese are raised to hate and that they're about to acquire nuclear weapons. Watching this film, I couldn't help but be reminded of the scene from "Annie Hall" where the mother takes young Alvy to the doctor because the boy is disturbed after reading that...

I just watched "How the West Was Won" (1962), the story of Western migration from one family's viewpoint. The film is divided into three segments, directed by John Ford, George Marshall ("Destry Rides Again," "When the Daltons Rode"), and Henry Hathaway respectively. The segments explore various tensions in Western history: (1) mountain men vs. permanent settlers, (2) Indians vs. railroad builders (and the townsfolk who...
