As you may know, I recently went to the big T...land of my unholy birth. The following entry concerns that journey.
I went where that yonder star is!

This trip was a one-year-friendship-anniversary trek with my wee friend Alexandria. She's wearing leggings, cuz that's how we roll.

We spent quite a chunk of time on the porch, impersonating our mothers...mine says "oh stop it!" and waves her hand like this:

We were invited to a party, which ended up being lame. I wrote a note to the hosts concerning this matter and left it in their wine cabinet. Crystal, lil A and I waited for a cab at the curb. We found out that PDX cabs are much cheaper than Austin cabs.

We ended up going to a little bar called Lala's where it was Christmas 365 days of the year. We are talking a tree, presents, lights, the works. There were two tiny elderly ladies running the bar. We met the local riff raff, I drank my whiskey, and it was delightful.

My grammy drove to Austin to get me, and I stayed with her and her sister Justine for a few days. They live near Fort Hood and Bush's ranch, in a town full of good ole boys, if you catch my drift. It always freaks me out to go there. However, I did see bluebonnets:

These are Justine's dogs, Kooky and Bear. They are frightening little creatures:

We drove around the countryside and stopped in an old-timey town. It's called The Grove, Texas. Basically, a while back (in the 40's) the place went dead (the state moved the highway so it didn't go through town anymore) and everybody left. An old fella named Moody up and bought the entire town (blacksmith shop, general store, post office, sheriff's office, saloon, three houses)
and uses it to store his enormous antique collection. He gives tours for two bucks. Justine and Peggy (my grammy) were so funny-they recognized all sorts of farm machinery and general store merchandise from when they were kids back in the 20's and 30's. Here's Peggy in the bar:

I hope I look that good when I'm 82!!
My favorite parts of the tour were the signs and the coffins:

Eventually I went back to Austin to catch a plane home. I took a lot of photos of Alexandria grooming herself. She reminds me of a gerbil, except she has a big catfish mouth.

I was glad to get back to PDX to see my big fluffy beast:

Classes start up tomorrow and I'm hyped because I have no books to buy (Women's studies this term!) and well, I'm a nerd and I love school.

One for the road:
