We had a rather lengthy discussion about the designs in class during the final and most of it wasn't about how I did what I did, but whether they were effective as a movie poster or not.

First poster - good design, style doesn't really seem to go along with the subject matter of the documentary, doesn't make the viewer interested in seeing the movie, banner text should be smaller than the title text.

Second poster - strong design, teacher feels it is varied enough from the iPod ads not to confuse, great visual appeal, makes the viewer want to hang it on their wall but not see it as a movie, doesn't give much information on what the movie is about, maybe a different color scheme (more gothy colors), possible teaser poster series, catches the eye.

Third poster - Great concept and design, makes the viewer stop and actually look at the poster, lets the viewer know what the subject matter is about, creates interest in seeing the movie.

Sounds like I did better than I thought I would. The instructor taught my After Effects class in the fall of 2005 where I put together a teaser trailer for the documentary. She was happy to see I was still working away on the documentary and she told me after class that she is personally interested in seeing it when it is done.

I'd be very interested in seeing the movie, especially if it has a picture of nixon on it,but a teacher will always give critical feed back even if they felt your design was superb... i think so...
